It’s been a few days since of posted anything on here so here I am, at midnight, writing. I had prom last night and didn’t get to bed until 5am, then didn’t get out of bed until 4 this afternoon. Just in time for work at 5.

Prom weekend was very tiring but fun! I started out on Saturday morning helping out with an Earth Week Kids Carnival at our local state park. I got home from that around noon then I cleaned my car and got myself ready. I picked up my date, took some pictures and ran a few places to show people our prom-ness.

Mass was at 4:30 then we went to a friend’s house for a nice supper. Then the Grand March and prom. Long story short, I enjoyed the dance and was officially the last person to leave the dance floor!

At after prom, I bowled, played blackjack, witnessed the hypnotist do his thing, and won several prizes including a free tire rotation, car wash tokens, gas cards, and a few restaurant gift cards. I basically won about 70 bucks worth of stuff by paying the 20 bucks for after prom itself which included a t-shirt and food, so I’d say that was a great deal!

There really isn’t any meat to this post, but I felt the need to post at least something!

It was a long, tiring, fun weekend, and I get to do it all over again next weekend at my friend’s prom!

Totally unrelated to this, but very important in my book, Sunday was Conan O’Brien’s 47th birthday! I’ll end this with his celebratory tweet of the day.

“ConanOBrien: Hayley Mills, Kourtney Kardashian, Melissa Joan Hart and I were all born on today’s date. Coincidence? Or the new cast of Bad Girl’s Club?”

Team Lo-Co.

It was another routine day in my life at school today. Except for one thing. Around 1 in the afternoon I checked my phone and saw one of my many twitter text updates. It read:

“ConanOBrien: The good news: I will be doing a show on TBS starting in November! The bad news: I’ll be playing Rudy on the all new Cosby Show”

Like many Americans following the Conan situation, I was almost certain that O’Brien would land at Fox. This tweet certainly caught my attention so I immediately logged on to a computer and googled Conan O’Brien.
Then it was confirmed. Conan was indeed moving to TBS to do a show at 10 o’clock (central) beginning this November. Unlike at nbc (I never capitalize that anymore because I don’t think they deserve it) where jay and Conan appeared to be enemies, the new TBS duo seems to be on the right track. George Lopez, host of “Lopez Tonight” on TBS that currently airs at 10, offered Conan his timeslot as he knew it would be a great lead in to his show.

Right after Conan made his surprise announcement, George Lopez welcomed him with open arms:

“I welcome @conanObrien to his new home at TBS .. A new generation of late night is about to begin !!”

From the get go, it’s good to see Conan is already in a solid relationship with his new late night neighbor, a thing he lacked with Leno at the end of Conan’s nbc tenure.

I see this relationship as one of the benefits of moving to TBS rather than Fox as was recently rumored. The major selling point for Conan to TBS was that he’d be able to own his own show. Imagine how Conan will be when his boss is himself, not to mention being on cable as opposed to network TV will allow him to explore more as the FCC doesn’t regulate cable channels quite as strictly.

Many people felt that Conan’s Tonight Show was too watered down to be funny and I can see where people get this idea. Jumping that extra hour ahead limited him from doing some things and it would have been a similar situation on Fox.

Regardless of where Conan was to land, his new show would likely have been drastically different than what we were all accustomed to seeing as nbc owned many of his segments.

Having to start from scratch all over again, I feel that cable will enable him to discover more and we will all enjoy that!

I’m well aware that this is probably not well written (it is getting pretty late and quite frankly hearing this news today made me so excited that I couldn’t wait to get my opinions out there so I’m going to ramble all I want!)

We may never see “In the year 3000, Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, the Masterbating Bear, or any of his other genius creations again, but you can be assured that over the next 7 months, Conan and his team will be hard at work making this show great.

Cable will allow Conan to loosen the reigns on his humor and as viewers and fans, we are all in for a real treat.

As of now, I have no idea as far as the details of the new show are concerned. Location, Max and the band, Andy, previous staff, and location are still in the works I’m guessing. But for now, I’m satisfied with knowing that beginning this fall, I will be able to go to sleep with an Irish-induced smile on my face.

George Lopez did a very classy thing moving over for a fellow classy comedian and starting this fall, TBS will be the new home for team Lo-Co.

Now I will begin my 7 month countdown until the return of the string dance.

I’m With Coco! And now I’m with TBS!

On the day of his first stop on his national comedy tour, Conan O’Brien has made a very surprising announcement. He will start AND own his new show starting in November on TBS. The show will air at 10 central time and George Lopez will move to 11! The countdown begins… Sent on the Sprint® Now Network from my BlackBerry®

The Wonder of Water Fountains

Water fountains. It’s something most of us tend to take for granted. In hallways at schools, hospitals, businesses, you name it. They seem to be everywhere.

Well for the past year or so, drinking from a water fountain has been a semi-painful experience for me.

On Memorial Day of 2006, I was bringing a folding chair down the stairs. I was going down the stairs pretty quickly, taking two steps at a time. And I missed the last step. Next thing I knew, I had broken my front two teeth into 3 pieces by landing on top of the chair and nearly biting through my lip. It took a few months til I had permanent teeth in my mouth again, but they said eventually you’ll probably need a root canal as you broke the one tooth right at the nerve.

I’ve spent the past 4 years with part of one tooth that glows under black light. That was kind of cool, but the past year or so, that tooth had seemed very sensitive. I noticed this especially when I’d drink from a water fountain. The way the water was angled at my tooth or how it hit the tooth, I’m not real sure why, but it was a very uncomfortable sensation. I probably looked very odd drinking from it because I had to bob my head and cock it to drink the water comfortably. Very odd.

Then about two weeks ago, that tooth started hurting and throbbing constantly. If you followed me on twitter at the time, you know what I’m talking about.

I went through our all of our play productions, all-state speech, and state mock trial on pain killers, ibuprofen, antibiotics, Orajel, you name it. It was VERY uncomfortable! But then everything changed.

On Good Friday, I finally had the root canal on that tooth and nearly a week later I am able to drink from a water fountain AND enjoy my time at it! The root canal itself didn’t really hurt, but the sounds and motions of the dentist sticking something in my tooth to pull the roots out was awfully uncomfortable.

I’d rather not relive the entire root canal process for your sake and mine, but I am so thankful that I got it! My mouth hasn’t felt this good in a couple years.

It feels good to drink from a water fountain again.

The Great Late Night Show

AP Lit has been a bit of a struggle for me this year. Our teacher passed away from cancer and we’ve had a sub for the last couple of months. To put it lightly, I haven’t handled the transition very well. I’ve always been a straight A student, top 10 in my class, and anything lower than maybe the occasional B is a major disappointment.

Well 3rd quarter has passed and I ended with a C. Making this the first time in my high school career I will not be on the high honor roll (4.0+, but our school is on a 4.33 scale so it’s not as impressive as it could seem). Thanks to this class I have a 3.98 for the quarter and I have a feeling that I’m either barely holding on to my top 10 spot or am going to fall out for the first time ever.

Maybe it’s senioritis, maybe its lack of effort, maybe it’s my extracurriculars, I don’t know. All I do know that I need a grade boost, especially in that class. I’ve never been a huge fan of reading novels and taking tests on them. I’ve always been a huge fan of making movie projects. (I’ve put several of my projects from previous years on youtube – search “mcmurrayfan26”).

Well recently we started a unit in class where we do “Lit circles,” reading one book amongst a group and discussing it and eventually doing a project. Well, you can bet that I enjoyed hearing that last part!

We started filming the project yesterday, finished most of the filming today, and I did most of the editing tonight. I put over 5 hours into everything today and should be able to wrap it up tomorrow and it’s due Friday so we should be good!

Our book was “The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott. Fitzgerald. It was written in 1925 and deals with social classes, money, and the withering of the American Dream (3 things that seem very common 85 years later). Anyway, we’re doing a “talk show” type show called “The Great Late Night Show with Nick Brincks.”

If you know me at all, you know I’m a big fan of 3 things: Jamie McMurray, REO Speedwagon, and Conan O’Brien. It’s only fitting that there’s the occasional string dance in our show! In the show, I start with a brief monologue/synopsis of the book. After the first commercial, I sit down and interview present day Tom and Daisy Buchanan; Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag. Later, we take a look into the past in “In the year 1925” (an obvious spoof of In The Year 3000) and interview a character from the book, Nick Carroway. Along the way, I play the host, a band member, Nick Carroway, and the Shamwow guy in a commercial. I’m also the one editing it and adding all of the post production thingamajigs.

A major theme of the story and our show is that money does not necessarily bring happiness.

Once I get the movie finished I plan on uploading it to youtube so as soon as it’s up, I’ll post it in my blog and on my twitter page so if you want to see four high school seniors look like fools, feel free to watch!

Happy Easter. Sort of.

For the millions of people reading my blog right now, thank you. (Someday Nick, someday…)

Anyway, on this night before Easter, I lay in bed testing out my “Blog from e-mail” thing so if you’re reading this, it worked! Speaking of work, I worked from 5 to 9 tonight but actually got off a little earlier than that which was surprising because we were pretty steady tonight. Then the fun began.

Myself, along with 7 of my friends decided to go check out this old, rundown, “haunted” place north of town that I had heard about. We drove along, looking for the lane, but with no mailbox, light poles, or address signs marking it, it was kind of difficult to find, making the place already that much more scary.

We finally found the lane and turned in, all our hearts were beating pretty rapidly. We weren’t embarrassed to say we were a tad bit nervous. We pulled up to the house, parked, and got out. My friend had a flashlight so a few of us walked up to the house and decided to check it out for ourselves. (For all we know, we could have been trespassing on someone’s place, but we saw no such signs, and figured, this place is so run down and we can tell we aren’t the first who’ve visited there and we certainly won’t be the last.

We peered in through the windows (or what used to be windows considering they were all busted out) and I took some pictures. The inside of the house was an absolute mess! Old furniture, bottles, glass, parts of the walls and ceiling, and even a bicycle were laying on the floor. We crept along the outside of the house and found a door on the other side. We looked in. Saw a hole in the floor. And threw caution to the wind. We went inside.

We walked in and the bathroom was to the immediate right. The bathtub was full of junk and the floor was covered as well. We walked through the kitchen and saw the cupboards still with glasses and dishes in them, a matchbook lying on the counter, an iron, shoe, and shotgun shell all on the floor. We were very intrigued.

We continued into the next room where we found a few books on the floor, lots of notecards, and papers, seeming to be of some kind of official records or something. (I’ve heard that. In the attic there’s file cabinets with marriage licenses and documents from the 20s or 40s, but the stairs didn’t look to be in any sort of usable condition, so we weren’t going to press our luck.) I picked up a few notecards and found one with my grandfather’s cousin’s name and address on it. It seemed like some kind of registration or something.

We eventually left the house and scoped out the grounds a little more and found a shed with an old, beat up station wagon type vehicle, with a bumper sticker that said “Grassley Works” (Chuck Grassley is one of our state’s US senators and has been since the 80s, so I’m thinking this place hadn’t been occupied since the 80s at the latest).

Throughout the night, I was taking pictures on my friend’s camera, so I plan on posting them on my facebook, twitter, and on my blog in the next few days, so check back for them!

All in all, it was a very fun and creepy night, and I’m not 100% sure it was even legal, but I figure if 8 Iowa teens are spending a Saturday night in the country with no alcohol, I’d say we’re in the minority! (I’m quite anti-underage drinking, but that could be a totally different blog)

Well considering I named this post Happy Easter and I haven’t really mentioned it at all, it technically is just that now! Just past midnight now on this 4th day of April 2010, Happy Easter everybody!

It’s always a treat to get to sleep in. For me, I don’t have that luxury very often. With school during the week, jobs and competitions on the weekend, I tend to not be home very much, and certainly not sleeping very much.

Enter Easter break.

It’s a Christian tradition to celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus on Easter. We celebrate with eggs, bunnies, those marshmallow heart attacks waiting to happen; Peeps. I’m not real sure where the correlation between our Savior dying for our sins and rabbits and eggs come from, but I go with it.

Anyway, back to my sleeping in. I’m going for a potential record for myself here in 2010. I’ve now been able to sleep in the past 2 days! I had to work at Pizza Hut last night, but I had all day free, so I spent the beginning, sleeping in. 🙂

Today, I had our annual A&W employee meeting (A&W here is seasonal, but has THE BEST food and ice cream in Carroll, Iowa. That is a FACT). After that, I came to our public library and created this blog, because internet is a rare luxury for me since we have HORRIBLE dial-up at home. I do have a blackberry with unlimited internet on it, but it feels good to stare at a screen and type rather than using those oh so small buttons. So here I am making this blog. I have to work in just over an hour so at the Hut, and I really hope it’s not too busy. I want to get home, enjoy some time at home, sleep, and enjoy what the “Easter Bunny” brings me tomorrow morning.

Tomorrow, I’ll probably go to mass then to my Grandma’s house as we do every Easter, and unlike last Easter, I don’t have to work the night of Easter! Alleluia! Crap, I wasn’t supposed to say that word quite yet. Oh well, I think he’ll forgive me, considering that is what Easter is all about; Jesus dying and rising for our sake, so our sins can be forgiven. And of course, so I can get some much needed sleep!
