Conan: The New Oprah

Back when Oprah announced she was ending her show after this year, Conan O’Brien began a new segment on his show called “Conan: The new Oprah”. Little did we know that she would last longer than him, but that’s a whole different story. So with the announcement of his new TBS show title today, he seemed to be keeping his promise.

Through a combination of his Twitter and Youtube accounts, Conan unveiled the title of his show set to begin November 8 on TBS. It’s called (drum roll please….) “Conan”. Fitting for the new “Oprah”, eh?

This is what he posted via Twitter:

@ConanOBrien: I announced the name of my show today right here: http://bit.ly/cc3jhU (Spoiler alert: The words “Tonight” and “Show” aren’t in it.)

That link then brought you to the Team Coco page with the 2 minute Youtube video Conan uploaded to reveal the new show title.

Something I think is very interesting, is Conan’s use of social media to promote his new show. Conan was never much into social media while he worked for NBC. But since then, he’s become very involved with it, especially considering how he made the announcement today. His Twitter bio says it all – “I had a show. Then I had a different show. Now I have Twitter account.

With his recent use of social media, I believe his appeal to younger people will continue growing as that’s something he’s always done well – appealing to the younger crowds.  Come November, Team Coco will once again have something to watch on the weeknights and everyone will see that Conan (along with his viewers) will have the last laugh in this 2010 Conan saga.

“Conan” begins Monday, November 8 CDT and will run 4 nights per week (Monday-Thursday) on TBS.
